The government has shut down the Janakpur Cigarette Factory, giving compulsory retirement to its workers and the board of directors.
A cabinet meeting on Thursday decided to close down the tobacco factory and mandatory retirement to 758 workers. The factory, once a major state-owned industrial entity, was in loss for years.
The meeting also approved the grant assistance of Rs. 1.9 billion from Asian Development Bank for skill development project along with five-year strategy of the micro-industries programmes for poverty alleviation
