The High Level Political Committee comprising five forces – UCPN-Maoist, Nepali Congress, CPN-UML, United Democratic Madhesi Front and Federal Democratic Front-Nepal – today agreed, in principle, to hold a round table conference to bring the agitating forces, including 33-party alliance led by CPN-Maoist and Federal Socialist Party, on board the election process.
According to the leaders who took part in today’s meeting, the modalities of holding the round table conference would be worked out on Saturday.
“The talks ended on a positive note. The parties in the HLPC have agreed to our main demand,” said CPN-Maoist Chairman Mohan Baidhya following the talks.
According to Mani Thapa, senior leader of the Revolutionary Communist Party and an ally of the 33-party alliance, the round table conference would be organised jointly by the HLPC and the 33-party alliance. The parties representing the dissolved CA and the agitating parties will be the stakeholders of the round table conference, Thapa added. He said the government might play the facilitator’s role to conduct the conference.
