Fire destroyed 39 houses in separate incidents in Kapilvastu and Saptari districts on Saturday.
A raging fire fueled by wind destroyed 16 houses and five sheds at Pakadi settlement in Jahadi VDC-3, Kapilvastu, on Saturday afternoon. According to the District Police Office, the fire broke out from a thatched roof house belonging to Kallu Dobo at around 3 pm before spreading. Four concrete houses in the neighbourhood were also partially damaged in the inferno.
The security personnel and the villagers doused the fire after three hours with help of a fire engine. The fire victims are now in pitiable condition as they could not salvage their belongings. Deputy Superintendent of Police Mahendra Khadka said they are assessing the damage caused in the settlement.
The local administration distributed food items for the immediate relief to the victims. Chief District Officer Krishna Chandra Ghimire said the District Administration Office would provide the fire victims with reliefs on Sunday.
Our correspondent from Saptari said that fire destroyed 18 houses in separate incidents in the district on Saturday. Police said fire destroyed 13 houses in Aurahi-7, damaging properties worth around Rs 2.2 million. Similarly, five other houses were burnt to cinder in Barahibirpur and Bhagawatpur VDCs in the district.
