The European Union has assured Nepal of Rs 15 billion for the energy sector.

During a meeting with minister of finance Ram Sharan Mahat in brussels on weekday on the sidelines of the Asia Programming Consultation Seminar, European Investment Bank (EIB) Director Francisco de Paula Coelho assured Rs twelve billion (US$120 million) for commissioning the Kali Gandaki corridor (220/400 kilovolt double circuit) and Marsyangdi corridor (220kV double circuit).

The total calculable value for these projects comes is US$360 million. according to Energy Secretary Bishow Prakash Pandit, the remaining fund are going to be injected by the Asian Development Bank and also the Norwegian government.

Transmission lines are crucial for the development of electricity projects both for domestic consumption and trade with neighbour country.

The remaining 3 billion rupees are going to be invested with within the upgradation and extension of transmission lines in Trishuli corridor.

In its five-year strategy plan for 2007-2013, the EU had been aiding nepal in the sectors of education, peace-building, trade and economic capacity-building.

EU Commissioner for Development Andris Piebalgs same, “We are happy that after the successful Constituent Assembly elections, the peace process  is currently back on course and also the constitution drafting process can resume, and presumably be completed inside a year. I hope that this can be the beginning of a replacement introduce the country’s political and economic development.”

The EIB has already in agreement to give Rs one.5 billion for Tanahun Hydropower Project. in keeping with a Finance Ministry statement, the fund are going to be discharged presently for project execution. throughout the meeting, Minister Mahat wanted a lot of support in infrastructure sectors like irrigation and road.
