6:27 AM

The 25th edition of the Industrial Goods and Technology Exhibition kicked off at Bhrikuti Mandap on Thursday. Organised by the Cottage and Small Industries Development Board (CSIDB) with the aim of marketing Nepali goods and technology in the international and domestic markets, the fair hosts 350 stalls from all 75 districts in the country.

The booths display a wide range of locally produced goods like pashmina, garment, metal craft, bamboo products, leather goods and footwear, wood craft, handmade paper and Mithila artworks. Likewise, food and beverage, clothing made of natural fabrics and farm products from micro and women entrepreneurs have been showcased at the expo.

Inaugurating the exhibition , Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Bamdev Gautam said that the country could take a leap forward to industrialization by promoting goods made by small and cottage industries.

He added that the base of the economy depended on the development of small and cottage industry for countries like Nepal which are dependent on agriculture.

“Local products can make a great contribution to the economy as we can earn foreign currency. This can be possible only if we develop our domestic products and compete in the international market,” he said. “Moreover, we can substitute imports by promoting our own products in the domestic market.”
