Host Thames, KIST advance into semifinals

Host Thames College and KIST College advanced into the Thames Inter College Cricket Championship semifinals winning their respective matches on Saturday.

Thames beat St Xaviers College by 37 runs after player-of-the-match adjudged Bikram Baniya contributed unbeaten 90 runs while KIST registered a 53-run victory against KCMIT College in another match.

Losing the toss and invited to bat first, Thames posted a moderate 166-run target for the loss of five wickets in its allotted 20 overs at Army Residental School, Bhaktapur Cricket Ground.

Skipper Bikram struck 11 fours and a six facing 69 balls as Nishant Shakya added 23 runs for Thames. Ankur Bhattarai bagged two wickets for St. Xaviers as Satyandra Joshi and Sabin Shrestha claimed one wicket apiece.

In response, St. Xaviers could only manage 129 runs losing eight wickets in 20 overs. It made a disastrous run chase as opener Sulav Dangol returned pavilion with one run after being run out as his partner Sabin Shrestha made 11 runs. St. Xaviers at least managed respectable score after Sumeet Regmi and Satyandra had contributed 38 and 33 runs with both remaining unbeaten. Aman Neupane bagged highest three wickets for 20 runs in his four overs spell for Thames while Bikram claimed two wickets.

In another match, KIST posted a medium 107 runs target against KCMIT for the loss of eight wickets in its allotted 20 overs after winning the toss and opting to bat first. Opener Biswash Bardewa contributed 57 runs off 65 balls, that including nine fours. His opening partner Nabin Maharjan was bowled out by Balmiki Yadav of KCMIT at two runs while Ankit Rawal added 31 runs. Balmiki picked up two wickets for 21 runs in four overs.

In response, KIST bundled out KCMIT in 13 overs with just 54 runs on board. Binay Karki (17 runs) was the only batsman to contribute in double figures. Player-of-the-match adjudged Ankit Rawal bagged highest five wickets for KIST for 17 runs in his four-over spell .
