The revenue collection of the government has increased by 120 percent during the first nine months of the current fiscal year 2013/14 compared to the same period last fiscal year.
According to the Department of Inland Revenue, the revenue collection stood over Rs 97.55 billion during the review period while the target was Rs 95.91 billion.
The revenue collection has been witnessed in a positive direction during the review period, said department’s director general Tankamani Sharma. “The reason behind higher collection more than the target is due to strictness in the collection,” he said.
The government has collected Rs 54.21 billion as income tax which is 101 percent higher than the target while Rs 24.40 billion was raised from VAT, 104 percent higher than target. Similarly, Rs 18.17 billion was collected as excise duty.
Likewise, the government generated Rs 361.8 million from registration fees and Rs 397 million from non-tax. The collection is 122 percent and 116 percent higher than the target.
The revenue collection has been witnessed in a positive direction during the review period, Sharma further said, adding, "The reason behind higher level of collection more than the target is due to strict policy.”
