A woman who gave birth on Tuesday night died due to lack of timely medical attention at Magma VDC of Rukum district on Wednesday.
According to the District health Office Nepe Khatri, 36, of Magma-9 died 10 hours after giving birth as a result of excessive bleeding.
The health office informed that Khatri, who gave birth at her home on Tuesday night, died as the umbilical cord and amnion did not come out of her body causing massive hemorrhage. She went into labour a month later than the expected month of Phalgun. Khatri could not be taken to the local health post for maternity as it was night during the time of labour, informed the deceased's brother Hari Khatri. He further said that they resorted to home remedies after giving birth. He said the mother died as they were preparing to take her to the health post after her condition became serious.
"Many women lose their lives as most of the maternity are done in home," said local health worker Bharat Jaisi, talking to eKantipur. "If she had been brought to the health post she could have survived."
