The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) has arrested six officials of Purbanchal University including vice chancellor Maheshwor Man Shrestha.
According to a statement issued by the anti-corruption body on Tuesday, the other arrested officials include registrar Niroj Pandey, exam comptroller Mohan Bahadur Basnet, dean at the Faculty of Science and Technology Shuva Narayan Pathak and assistant dean Rajesh Kumar Jha and dean at the Faculty of Management Shyam Bahadur Katwal.
Shrestha, Pandey, Basnet and Jha have already been suspended, while the CIAA is looking for one more dean at the Faculty of Law, Shambhu Prasad Koirala, who is at large now.
The CIAA has charged these seven officials of irregularities by not taking any initiative to collect Rs 42 million as the admission fee in the current education year.
Various complaints were filed about the irregularities, following which the six officials were detained for further investigation, added the statement.
