Govt bodies flout PM's order

1:17 AM

Shortly after assuming the office, Prime Minister Sushil Koirala’s first order was to as all government bodies to post the detail of any payment of Rs 5,000 or above on their website at least for the next three days.

Except National Vigilance Center (NVC) and Nepal Trust Office, none of the governmental bodies have posted the details of such payment on their websites till Wednesday.

The order sanctioned by the cabinet was part of the new government’s initiative to enforce concrete measures to curb the menace of widespread corruption and anomalies in the country.

In a recent meeting with the secretaries, Koirala had reminded them to make public details of the expenditure of their concerned ministries on their websites, reiterating the government’s policy of zero tolerance for corruption.

Secretaries had then vowed to implement the government decision with immediate effect.

The Prime Minister had reminded the secretaries about the cabinet decision after NVC officials had briefed him the poor implementation of the decree aimed at making civil service more transparent and fair.

Prime Minister Koirala had also directed the secretaries to be focused on “people-oriented services”.

The Prime Minister also asked them not to tolerate any unnecessarily delay on the part of the ministerial staff when it comes to delivering services to the people.
