Nepal Ko Yuwa, a social organization established by Nepali students educated abroad, has announced the ‘Dayitwa Fellowship 2014’ on Thursday.
The organization’s General Secretary, Pukar Malla announced the fellowship in a press meet in Kathmandu today.
Malla said the fellowship provides an opportunity to Nepali students, who want to return home.
Country Manager, Bhusan Prasain said the fellowship has created opportunity for returnee students to share their learning with public agencies and lawmakers.
“This fellowship has created an effective platform for young students and professionals like us to not only come back and do something for ourselves, but also contribute to the development of our country,” Dr. Alka Sapkota, 2013 fellow, said.
Twenty fellows have been selected from eight countries for this year. They will work in seven public organizations and with 10 lawmakers including former Prime Ministers Madhav Kumar Nepal and Baburam Bhattarai along with youth leaders Gagan thapa and Gokarna Bista, among others.
The selected fellows for this year include: Pooja Karki (Australia), Sacheen Maharjan (Hong Kong), Ajaya Kumar Upreti (Italy), Tsering Dolma Chawa Sherpa, Prashant Luintel, Prakash Pariyar, Sabrina Singh, Abhinav Khanal, Sakar Pudasaini, Surya Kumar Karki and Ashraya Dixit (USA), Arun Bhandari, Roshan Kumar Mehta and Rajya Laxmi Gurung (Nepal), Nityanand Kumar Shah, Manjeet Raj Pandey and Prashidha Khatiwada (India), Shyam Bandhu Subedi (Poland), Bidur Raj Gautam (China) and Mukesh Jha (UAE).
According to the organizers, the fellows were selected nearly from around 200 applicants.
Dayitwa Fellowship aims to nurture youth leadership in policy making by providing placements for Nepali professionals and graduate students at various government institutions to address critical needs of Nepal’s public sector.
