Police constable Manoj Balmiki based at the Armed Police Industrial Force in Nepalgunj was arrested following a failed attempt to set ablaze his wife Amrita, 24, a resident of Paraspur VDC-7 in Banke district.
Inebriated Manoj locked up his wife inside a room and doused her in kerosene in the incident that took place this afternoon. However, locals were able to rescue Amrita before the damage could be done, according to local resident Rubi Khan.
Unconscious following the physical assault and the trauma of the incident, Amrita is undergoing treatment at the Bheri Zonal Hospital, according to the District Police Office, Banke.
Meanwhile, constable Manoj has been arrested and taken into police custody for necessary action.
