Nepal Police’s Tara Devi Pun and Nepal Army’s Kamal Adhikari have set new national records in weightlifting during their selection for the upcoming 17th Asian Games to be held in Inchon, South Korea from September 19 to October 4, 2014.

Both athletes have set three national records each in Women’s above-75 kg and Men’s 69 kg categories, respectively.
Pun has bettered her own national records by lifting 70 kg in snatch and 93 kg in clean and jerk. Her previous record was 67 kg in snatch and 92 kg in clean and jerk.
Similarly, Adhikari also improved his own records in weightlifting as he lifted 117 kg in snatch and 157 kg in clean and jerk. Adhikari broke his own records of 116 kg in snatch and 156 kg in clean and jerk.
Army’s Dinesh Shrestha also created a new national record in 94 kg snatch breaking his own record of 111 kg. He lifted 112 kg.
All these lifters had set the previous national records in National Weightlifting under the First Lumbini National Championship.
Meanwhile, Nepal Police’s Uttam Khatri secured top position in Women’s 58 kg category. She lifted 63 kg in snatch and 75 kg in clean and jerk.
In Men’s 56 kg, Prakash KC from Banke lifted 85 kg in snatch and 107 kg in clean and jerk while Police’s Bikash Thapa lifted 108 kg in snatch and 124 kg in clean and jerk in 62 kg category. Army’s Bhairav Singh Thapa won Men’s 85 kg category lifting 95 kg in snatch and 125 kg in clean and jerk.
Likewise, Army’s Gagan Singh Oli lifted 100 kg in snatch and 132 in clean and jerk while Gopal Bahadur Shrestha from Ramechhap managed to lift 115 kg in snatch and 154 kg in clean and jerk under 105 kg category.
Nepal Weightlifting Association (NWA) will announce the final squad for the Asian Games after the meeting of the five-member selection committee on Sunday.
