The Government has extended the deadline for renewing the license of casinos and to pay the due royalty by 15 days.
The extension of the deadline was made following a second amendment to the Casino Regulations, according to Joint Secretary at the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Mohan Krishna Sapkota.
The Ministry had earlier given a four month's time for renewal and payment of the royalty. However, the casino proprietors failed to meet the deadline, leading to a new extension.
Prior to this, the casino proprietors had knocked the doors of the Supreme Court calling for an interim order to stop enforcement of the Casino operation regulations.
There are a total of 10 licensed casinos under operation in Nepal including eight in the capital and two in Pokhara.
