Bhattarai says to deny capitalism would infact be counter-revolutionary

5:07 AM

UCPN (Maoist) leader Dr. Baburam Bhattarai has said that to deny capitalism altogether would only hurt revolutionary principles, hinting that it is a stage of development all society goes through.

He added that “capitalist revolution” can infact be “more revolutionary” and cannot be equated with “neo feudalism”.

Speaking at the launch of a anthology of poems titled ‘Taranga’ by UCPN (M) leader Dina Nath Sharma in the capital on Thursday, the former prime minister cited an example of a crucial period in Nepali history to put things into perspective.

He said to declare that the advent of capitalism after the year 2007 B.S (1951 AD, when Nepal got the first taste of democracy after the fall of Rana oligarchy) was not “progressive” would infact be counter-revolutionary, Bhattarai said.

In a roundabout manner, Bhattarai was clearly pointing out at the successive stages of development of a society as per Marx’s Theroy of History where capitalism naturally follows feudalism to later pave the path for socialism and eventually a classless and stateless society of communism.
