CC meet called to decide on fulfilling vacant posts in constitutional bodies

3:12 AM

The Constitutional Council (CC) is convening today to take decision on fulfilling vacant posts in the constitutional bodies.

Prime Minister Sushil Koirala called the meeting of the CC to recommend the appointment of Chief Justice (CJ), it is learnt.

Knowledgeable sources say that the meeting of the CC will recommend the name of acting CJ Damodar Sharma to the post of head of the judiciary.

Sharma had been fulfilling his duties as the acting CJ after Khil Raj Regmi became the Chairman of Interim Election Counil of Ministers as Chief Justice.

However, the post of CJ had been lying vacant after Regmi resigned as the head of the judiciary on the very day Sushil Koirala was appointed prime minister.

After the CC recommends Sharma’s name as the next CJ, a parliamentary hearing committee will review the decision.

According to constitutional provisions, the President will appoint the CJ only after the parliamentary committee approves the decision.
