Nepal lose against Yemen

9:25 AM

Nepali national football team lost its first friendly match against Yemen going down 2-0 at the Grand Hamad Stadium in Doha, Qatar on Tuesday.

Nepal, ranked 160 in FIFA World ranking, suffered an embarrassing defeat as Kamil Tareq and Homamed Barwish scored goals in the second half ensuring victory for the 185th ranked Yemeni side. This was the only second encounter between the two sides that came after a span of 14 years. Nepal and Yemen had locked horns for the first time in 2000 during the Asian Cup campaign where Nepal had registered a 3-0 victory.

Yemen controlled most of the ball possession and finally opened their goal-scoring account when Tareq found the back of the net on the 58th minute on a counter move. Barwish doubled their goal advantage in the 66th minute with a powerful strike. The game would have become a humiliation for the Nepali side had goalie Kiran Chemjong not produced some fantastic saves to deny the Yemeni players.
