Passport form collection centres to increase

5:19 AM

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is increasing the number of passport form collection centres from coming April 14 in order to ease the pressure of passport seekers in the capital.

The number of form collection centre at the Department of Passport will increase from the existing six to nine counters.

The number of the centres is being increased at the direction of Foreign Minister Mahendra Bahadur Pandey, who had directed the Department officials during a visit recently to ease the crowd of people coming to develop their passports.

All the centres will open from 7:00 am to 12:30 pm and this is expected to avoid the long queues of passport seekers, said Director General at the Department Ramesh Prasad Khanal.
One can get their passport within 16 to 20 days in the capital if the forms are collected on time.

Forms for passport can be submitted in all the 75 district administration offices in the country. However, people in the district would have to wait for at least three months to get their passport.

One can apply for a speedy process at the Department in Kathmandu. And as a result, there is more pressure of passport seekers in the Department.

The Department has so far issued some 1.8 million machine readable passports bringing in around 7 billion rupees in revenue, according to Director General Khanal.

A service recipient has to pay Rs. 5,000 for regular service and Rs. 10,000 for express service in getting his/her passport.
