Acting Chief Justice Damodar Prasad Sharma has been recommended as the new Chief Justice of the country.
A meeting of the Constitutional Council (CC) at the Prime Minister’s office in Singha Durbar on Monday took the decision.
Sharma had been fulfilling his duties as the acting CJ after Khil Raj Regmi became the Chairman of Interim Election Counil of Ministers as Chief Justice.
However, the post of CJ had been lying vacant after Regmi resigned as the head of the judiciary on the very day Sushil Koirala was appointed prime minister.
Sharma’s name has now been forwarded to a parliamentary hearing committee will review the decision.
According to constitutional provisions, the President will appoint the CJ only after the parliamentary committee approves the decision.
