Region No. 2 Birgunj has lifted the title of Pepsi Standard Chartered One-Day National Cricket Tournament 2014 on Monday.
Birgunj defeated departmental team Armed Police Force (APF) by three wickets in the final match held at the TU Ground in Kirtipur today.
Birgunj chased the target of 214 runs in 48.5 overs posted by APF in the first inning. APF was restricted to 213 runs in 46.1 overs as Kumar Thapa claimed four wickets and Ram Naresh Giri took three wickets for the winning team.
Amit Shrestha scored the highest 88 runs while Arif Seikh made 70 runs for Birgunj.
With the trophy, Birgunj bagged Rs 1, 50,000 while runner-up APF had to satisfy for Rs 1, 00,000.
Similarly, Birgunj’s Sheikh was declared player of the series and received Rs 25,000. Likewise, Biratnagar’s Puspa Thapa and Raj Kumar Pradhan were announced best batsman and bowler, respectively. Both received Rs 15,000 each as the prize.
Meanwhile, Dhangadi’s Lalit Singh Bhandari won the emerging player of the series trophy.
Youth and Sports Minister Purushottam Paudel handed over the prizes and trophies to the winners amid a ceremony at the same venue.
APF had won the last edition of the tournament while Bhairahawa had finished second.
