Nepali National Team and Manang Marshyandi Club (MMC) player Anil Gurung has been awarded “'Ncell Player of the Year 2070”.
Gurung received a car as an award. Minister for Youth and Sports Purushottam Paudel handed over a dummy of car key to Gurung amid a function at ANFA complex in Lalitpur on Monday.
Gurung overcame Bharat Khawas and Bhola Silwal in the vote counting as he received 98 percent votes, according to ANFA.
Gurung who hails from Pokhara had debuted in the national team in 2005. He had also played for Brigade Boys, Three Star Club, NRT and MMC.
Among the 20 selected players who have played SAFF Championship, Gurung, Khawas and Silwal were the top three contenders for the award.
The winner is declared through the voting system with 60 percent public votes while 20 percent each votes from the coaches and sports journalists.
Speaking at the award function, Gurung praised ANFA for starting the trend of awarding the players. He also thanked all for their votes.
Speaking about the recent controversy between some clubs and ANFA on payment issues, Gurung urged all to settle the issues through dialogue.
