Birgunj continues winning streak as Kathmandu register first win in One-Day cricket

Region No. 2 Birgunj has continued its winning streak as it defeated APF by five wickets to register second straight win in the Pepsi Standard Chartered One-Day National Cricket Tournament held at Rangasala Ground in Pokhara on Friday.

Birgunj had defeated Baitadi by 34 runs in the inaugural match of the tournament held in Pokhara on Wednesday.

In the first batting, APF was restricted just to 181 runs in 44.4 overs as Ram Naresh Giri, Gaurav and Singh Arif Seikh grabbed three wickets each for Birgunj.

Bhuban Karki made a half century scoring 59 runs and Sanjam Regmi contributed 42 runs for APF. However, their score went in vain after losing to Birgunj.

While chasing the target, Birgunj scored 186 runs with the loss of five wickets in 41.3 overs. Arif Seikh and Robin Gurung scored a half century each making 56 runs and 52 runs, respectively.

Similarly, Region No. 3 Kathmandu registered first win after defeating Region No. 7 Janakpur by 93 runs in its second match held at TU Ground in Kathmandu.

Kathmandu posted 297 runs target losing all its wickets in 49.1 overs in the first inning. Sonu Tamang, Sanjay Basnet and Prashanna Shakya made a half century each. Tamang scored 68 runs, Basnet 51 runs and Shakya 50 runs.

Sanjog Karn claimed four wickets, Rahul Pratap Singh three wickets and Raj Mohammad two wickets.

In the second inning, Janakpur was restricted just to 203 runs in 45.4 overs. Hari Shankar Sah made 64 runs, Sunil Sah 44 runs and Chandan Jha 42 runs. Pramod Basnet took four wickets for winning team.
