The government has announced cash incentives to village development committees, municipalities and districts that achieves one hundred percent literacy by the end of the current fiscal year.
The Ministry of Education has said that it would reward Rs 500,000 to districts, Rs 200,000 to municipalities and Rs 50,000 to VDCs for eliminating il literacy .
The decision, according to Non-Formal Education Centre (NFEC), is for the motivation for an effective implementation of Literate Nepal Mission that has the goal of achieving 100 percent literacy in the country by the end of 2015.
According to Baburam Poudel, director at NEFC, 78 VDCs, one municipality including 34 wards of various municipalities have been declared total literate so far. He said about 12 districts are in process of becoming totally literate. Similarly, the NEFC is planning to declare 36 districts literate within a year.
Any local body that achieves above 95 percent literacy can be declared 100 percent literate, according to the ministry.
