Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation, Bhim Prasad Acharya , briefed the Legislature-Parliament about the loss caused by the avalanche at the Mount Everest Base Camp last week.
Minister Acharya shared the details of the loss caused by the avalanche after lawmaker Angdawa Sherpa, taking time at the very beginning of the Parliament meeting today, drew the House's attention towards the fatal incident.
As many as 13 Sherpa guides lost their lives in the avalanche that took place some 100 meters away from Everest Base Camp on April 18 while three others are still missing, said Minister Acharya.
The government mobilised its mechanism for the rescue once the information about the tragic incident was received, Minister Acharya said. Government is providing free treatment to the six people injured in the incident, he added.
Minister Acharya also informed the house that the government will be providing Rs. 1.5 million including Rs. 500,000 on behalf of the government and Rs. 1,000,000 as insurance to the family of the fallen Sherpa guides.
The government on Tuesday had agreed almost all demands put forth by various mountaineering and guide associations. Various associations had on Sunday submitted 13-point demand to the government intended to address the problems faced by the high-altitude mountaineering support staffs.
Responding to a query over the concern shown by the International Civil Aviation Organisation, he said the government has been working seriously to make Nepalese air service more secure and reliable.
