Street vendors picketed the Office of the Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) calling for ensuring designated area for the self-employed entrepreneurs (street vendors) while constructing and expanding new roads in the city.
The national Self-employed Entrepreneurs’ Association, Joint Trade Entrepreneurs’ Association, and Nepal Self-employed Business Entrepreneurs’ Association picketed the office while also demanding alternative to their business.
The street vendors’ organizations picketed the Metropolis Office for two hours from 11:00 am as per their third round of protest programmes.
The government has banned running business at the footpath since February 26 citing affect on the movement of pedestrian. The street vendors have since then staging peaceful agitation.
Chairman of the Nepal Self-employed Entrepreneurs’ Association, Kumar Thapa, said the government should give right alternative to the entrepreneurs that have been running their businesses alongside the roads, as they have been displaced by the government’s decision in this regard.
