The Department of Archeology has completed a preliminary excavation at historic Manimandap area in Janakpur Municipality- 13.
The area has historic and religious values as it is believed that wedding ceremony of the Lord Ram and Sita had been performed here. The excavation task began on March 26 last month as per the Department’s regular calendar.
Various objects showing that there was a human settlement in the area in the ancient time were found during the excavation, Chief of National Archives Prakash Darnal said. Clay utensils, ancient oven and ashes have been traced from the excavation site, he added. The excavated remains have been kept safe for further study, it is learnt.
