The Sushil Korirala-led Cabinet will likely bring on board three more ministers, two from Rastriya Prajatantra Party and one from CPN (ML) to oversee the portfolios of commerce; science and technology; and women, children and social welfare, respectively.
In his meeting with RPP Chairman Surya Bahadur Thapa on Wednesday, Prime Minister Koirala yielded to the RPP's demand of two ministries.
The coast is clear, a source close to Koirala said, there should not be any delay in the next Cabinet expansion, as the RPP, which was dissatisfied with the earleir offering of only one ministry, is getting two government departments.
The RPP will most likely get the Ministry of Commerce and Supplies and the Ministry of Science and Technology. Three directly elected RPP lawmakers, Sunil Thapa, Bikram Pandey and Dipak Bohora have staked claim over the ministerial positions.
CPN (ML) would be given the Ministry of Women, Children and Social Welfare. CPN (ML) is expected to propose Nilam Khadka to take over the portfolio.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Koirala has also agreed to allocate one lawmaker's seat for the RPP during the appointment of 26 lawmakers. RPP is mulling to pick its senior leader Pashupati Rana as the lawmaker.
Koirala also held meeting with Tarai Madhes Loktantrik Party Chairman Mahanta Thakur on Wednesday. During the meeting, Koirala stressed on the need to hold local body election, and urged Thakur to lend his support for the same.
Thakur, however, suggested Koirala to focus on promulgating constitution within a year. The duo also held discussions on the appointment of lawmakers in the parliamentary committees under the Constituent Assembly.
