The 25th edition of the National Industrial Goods and Technology Exhibition concluded on Monday recording transactions worth Rs 49.5 million. The organiser said that the five-day fair attracted 325,000 visitors.

The expo was organised by the Cottage and Small Industries Development Board with the aim of promoting and marketing Nepali goods and technology in the domestic market.

Coordinator of the exhibition Narayan Lamichhane said that it was much bigger compared to last year in terms of the number of visitors and sales volume. “Last year, there were 134,000 visitors and sales of Rs 30.5 million,” he added. “The number of stalls also increased to 332 from 283 before.”

There were many exhibitors from remote areas besides the major cities including the Kathmandu valley. Lamichhane said that the fair helped to provide encouragement to small entrepreneurs besides promoting their products among domestic buyers.

According to the organiser, handicraft and products made of silk, cotton and allo were the biggest sellers at the expo. Likewise, leather goods and organic products such as tea, coffee and vegetables recorded good sales.

Speaking at the concluding ceremony, president of the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) Pradip Jung Pandey said that industry laws should be revised as they were not friendly to small and cottage industries.

“Various industries including small and cottage industries have been pushed to the verge of extinction due to lack of proper laws, so the industry laws should be revised for the development of small and cottage industries,” he said.
