The four-day long Inter-Country skill sharing exchange workshop among indigenous journalists of five different countries concluded in Dhulikhel of Kavre district on Friday.
The workshop was organized by Federation of Nepali Indigenous Nationalities Journalists (FONIJ) in close coordination with Asia Indigenous People’s Pact.
During the workshop participants from Cambodia, Philippines, Thailand, Myanmar and Nepal shared their experiences and skills for promoting the issues of the indigenous people through media.
Cambodian participant Rim Rem said in the past there was not even a single indigenous journalist working for Cambodia's mainstream media and the country did not have any effective community media that raised the issues of indigenous people.
Raymund of Philippines said the indigenous people have been working with journalists from non-indigenous communities to promote their issues, but still they are not as strong when one is to compare them with Nepal’s indigenous journalists.
The participants of the workshop visited different media outlets of the country including mainstream medias like Nepal Television, Radio Nepal, Gorkha FM, Kantipur, Radio Namobuddha of Dhulikhel and Equal Access (which hosts a popular youth program—Sathi Sanga Manka Kura) during the four-day long workshop.
