Ramila Ghimire of Khotang fled to Kaski district and tied nuptial knots with her lover Sujan Bhujel five months ago.
Before her spouse went to work for Upper Madi Hydropower project in Sijdure VDC on Friday morning, she had served breakfast for him. However, within an hour he entered the tunnel, he along with other 15 workers were badly trapped when a sudden landslide struck at around 1 pm, blocking its outlet.
Soon after she learnt about the incident, she reached the site and started yelling for help to rescue her spouse. But there was no one to console and respond to her.
People waiting outside the tunnel were busy planning ways to rescue them. After some time, she felt drained and was unable to utter a word. As the hours passed by, Ramila began losing hope of finding her husband alive.
But she could revive herself after an hour, learning that the rescue team had spotted the area where 13 workers, including her life-partner, were trapped. They had communicated through the iron pipe that was inserted into the tunnel to supply oxygen from the outside.
She could see a ray of hope after she witnessed that oxygen and water were being pumped into to the pocket where the workers were trapped through a pipe at a regular intervals of 10 minutes.
