National campaign against rape begins

The women human rights activists' network has begun a national campaign against rape cases from Tuesday.

NN/rhUnder the campaign, the activists have called for amendment to the existing laws related to rape cases. The existing laws have fixed a 35-day limitation to the rape victim to file case against the perpetrator and they have demanded correcting it without setting the time limitation to register such cases. 

A fast track justice system should be developed to provide speedy justice to the victim, as the victims are feeling harassed these days due to impracticability of existing laws, activists said.  

The investigation in such cases should be carried out scientifically realizing the psychological burden of the victims. The activists have further called for forming a High Level Impartial National Investigation Committee to investigate the war-era rape cases.

Under this campaign, the network has begun a sit-in at Bhadrakali in the capital from today and it will continue till mid-May and this would be changed into fast on to death after mid-May, said Dr Renu Rajbhandari, chairperson of the campaign.

 The campaign aims to provide justice to the victim after creating pressure to amend the existing impractical laws to the authority concerns.
