As part of its new Treks for Change program, in August the charity is running a unique trip to Upper Mustang, a high-altitude desert region that is an outpost of Tibetan culture amid the remote valleys of northern Nepal. The 22-day trip will be accompanied by Lindsay Brown, a Getty Images travel photographer and author of Lonely Planet guides to Nepal, Bhutan, India and Pakistan and the Karakoram Highway.
The trip will follow the footsteps of Australian/ Tibetan musician Tenzin Choegyal as he returns to Upper Mustang for the first time since leaving with his nomad family as a small child. The trip, which departs on August 2, costs $US4500 ($A4820) plus airfares. Each person on the trip will also be required to commit to raise an additional tax deductible donation of $1000, which will go towards improving the lives of the people of the Himalaya.
