Parliamentary hearing for appointment of chief justice on Monday

1:26 PM

The Parliamentary Hearing Special Committee is to hold the hearing of the candidate proposed for the post of the Chief Justice on coming Monday.

It may be noted that the Constitutional Council has decided recently to appoint Acting Chief Justice Damodar Prasad Sharma to the post of the Chief Justice.

In this regard, a meeting of the Committee here today approved the interim internal working procedures 2070 B.S. for the appointment of the Chief Justice.

It has also made an express provision of releasing a public notice calling for complaints if any against the proposed candidate, within three days starting today.

The earlier provision was for five days but it has been reduced by two days making this an exception to not to be used as a precedent, said Kul Bahadur Gurung, who chairs the Committee as the eldest member.

Meanwhile, following differing views of the members over the committee's interim working procedures, the Committee has formed a five-member sub-committee to develop new working procedures for the Committee.

Dr Prakash Sharan Mahat, Asta Laxmi Shakya, Agni Sapkota, Prem Bahadur Singh and Brijesh Kumar Gupta are members of the sub-committee.
