A meeting of the Constitutional and Political Dialogue Committee of the Constituent Assembly (CA) on Sunday failed to name the committee’s unanimous chief, as the three major political parties said they would need more time to take a decision.
A meeting in this regard has been rescheduled for April 18. This meeting is supposed to decide who will head the crucial committee of the House.
Parties will first attempt to find a common candidate to be endorsed through consensus. If no consensus, an election is inevitable, it is learnt.
Today’s meeting was held at Prime Minister Sushil Koirala’s official residence at Baluwatar. UCPN (Maoist) chairperson Pushpa Kamal Dahal took part in the meeting along with CPN-UML senior leader Madhav Kumar Nepal and RPP chairperson Surya Bahadur Thapa.
The NC and UML had proposed Dahal to head the committee, while Dahal said he would prefer his deputy, Baburam Bhattarai, to lead the committee, it is further learnt.
