A taskforce has submitted a report to Minister for Sports Purswottam Poudel and Secretary Hari Prasad Nepal recommending the construction of international level stadiums and covered halls in five community forests of Baluwa and Chunikhel VDCs in the northern-east belt of Kathmandu.

The Ministry of Youth and Sports had formed a three-member taskforce coordinated by Under Secretary at the Ministry Surya Prasad Sharma with Chief of National Sports Council Construction Branch Arun Upadhyay and Council's engineer Sanjeeb Acharya.

The decision came four months ago in order to address the need of international level stadium and covered hall for the institutionalised development of sports in Nepal.

The taskforce had also observed the lands of Pashupati Area Development Trust in Gothatar and Himal Cement based in Chobhar for the construction of international level stadium.

They need to search for land in other areas as the one they found proper in Gothatar is located nearby airport and the task of constructing dry port is underway in Chobhar-based territory.

The taskforce had put its efforts to search for appropriate site stretching more than 600 Ropanies of land keeping in mind that there should be international level stadium, small covered halls and small sports sites.

After the search, the taskforce submitted its report deeming the site with over 3,200 ropanies of land in Baluwa and Chunikhel VDCs appropriate for the construction.

General Secretary of National Park Trilochan Poudel said that the Ministry of Peace and Reconstruction has decided to construct small green parks in the community forests, adjacent to under-construction National Martyr and Peace Park.

The total construction costs of the International Sports Hub with international stadium stretching over 1,600 square metres could be ascertained only after its comprehensive feasibility study, Coordinator Sharma added.
