Eight persons were arrested for chanting slogans during the meeting of the Legislature Parliament on Wednesday.
Those arrested were all temporary teachers and were taken under custody after they suddenly started calling for implementation of the Education Act from the audience gallery of the parliament.
The temporary teachers, who had started chanting slogans immediately after Speaker Subash Nembang informed the House of the formation of various House committees were soon nabbed by the gaurds of the parliament. They were handed over to the police for disrupting the parliament, according to the Parliament Secretariat.
The temporary teachers have been kept under custody at the New Baneshwor Police station.
Meanwhile, 10 out of the proposed 11 thematic committees were formed to assist the parliamentary business on Wednesday.
The various committees formed during Wednesday’s session of the legislature parliament are international relations and labour; good governance and monitoring committe; social justice and human rights; finance committee; industry, commerce and consumers' rights; agriculture, water resources and hydropower development committee; women and children and elderly citizens committee; social welfare committee, state affairs and environment conservation committee.
