The three major political parties – Nepali Congress, CPN (UML) and UCPN (Maoist) – have reached an agreement to table the bills on Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) and enforced disappearances at the Legislature-parliament on Wednesday.
The major political parties reached to this agreement during a meeting of their top leaders held at the prime minister’s residence on Monday.
They have also directed a high-level cross-party mechanism comprising of members from the three parties to make necessary arrangement for preparing the draft of the TRC bill and present it before the House for endorsement.
Speaking to media persons after the meeting, senior NC leader Ram Chandra Poudel said that the taskforce has been directed to prepare the draft of the bill on TRC and enforced disappearences keeping in view the Comprehensive Peace Accord, the recent Supreme Court decision (of conflict era cases falling under its jurisdiction) and the interim constitution.
Earlier the same day, the office bearers of the ruling Nepali Congress (NC) discussed the two and decided to endorse them by forging consensus among major parties.
