US, Norway Ambassadors meet UCPN (Maoist) Chairman Dahal

US Ambassador to Nepal Peter W Bodde met with UCPN (Maoist) chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal at the latter's residence at Lazimpat on Friday.

During the meeting, they discussed the latest political situation in the country and the formation of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission and the Commission of Inquiry on Disappearances, among other issues.

Chairman Dahal said that the bill on the formation of the two commissions the government presented before the Legislature-Parliament for moving forward the peace process were done only on agreement and that they were conscious regarding the provisions in the bill concerning serious violation of human rights, Chairman Dahal's aide Shiva Khakurel said.

Stating that his party was ready to address the topics of concern on and respect of human rights, he said there was no need of unnecessary concern and publicity on this.

The US ambassador said that he and the US government were ready to provide the required support for taking the peace process to a logical conclusion.

Also today, Norwegian Ambassador to Nepal, Kjell Tormod Pettersen called on chairman Dahal.

On the occasion, the UCPN (Maoist) chairman Dahal said the cooperation provided by the Norwegian government was significant to take forward the country's peace process but their only wish was that this assistance is not misused.

The Norwegian ambassador said that he was positive towards Dahal's concerns and that their attention was drawn to the 'call attention motion' brought by the UCPN (Maoist) in the Legislature-Parliament meeting on Thursday.He also said that he was positive lest the assistance provided by his country and embassy is misused.
