A 17-year-old girl here has registered a complaint against her 22-year-old husband at the local police office, charging him of child marriage as well as polygamy .
Saraswati Nepali, a resident of Gidikhola in Hanku-6 of the district filed a complaint at the Women and Children Service Centre under the District Police Office charging her husband Amar Nepali of committing child marriage when he married her and now polygamy to marry for the second time.
Based on the complaint filed on Monday, police have arrested Amar and his newly wed wife the same day. The couple had reportedly wed on the first day of the Nepali New Year on April 14.
Saraswati was 13 years old when she entered into an arranged marriage with Amar on May 13, 2010, according to the complaint filed at the centre.
Meanwhile, Amar has accepted his crime while arguing that he had to marry for the second time after his first wife always lived at her maternal home and did not help with the domestic chores.
He even proposed to keep both his wives together, based on mutual understanding. However, Saraswati rejected the offer.
Meanwhile, Sub-inspector at the Service Centre, Sushila Gurung said the case cannot be mediated as it is a criminal offense, and legal action would be pursued.
