Finance Minister Dr. Ram Sharan Mahat has said as we have spent long time in political debate, now is the time to take to the path of economic prosperity.
Dr. Mahat made this remark while speaking at a talk programme on 'Politics for prosperous Nepal' on the occasion of the centenary of BP Koirala organised by the BP Chintan Pratisthan, Lalitpur in the capital on Friday.
Economic growth will be attained only if we increase production, Dr. Mahat said, adding we import agro-products worth one hundred billion rupees and we should increase production to stop it and build infrastructure, and called for investment in electricity, agriculture, tourism and irrigation.
Stating that the volume of country's economy had increased due to liberal economy, Dr. Mahat said China and India took the path of economic prosperity only when they adopted open economy.
Mahat said the essence of socialism of BP Koirala was social justice, and added that poverty alleviation, environment conservation and increasing human development index were the main challenges.
He also called for environment for investment to create employment.
Chairman of the BP Chintan Pratisthan, Haribol Bhattarai said Nepali Congress should move ahead campaign for sustainable economic development with social justice and the country can be prosperous from BP's thinking and socialism and its honest implementation.

Pratisthan District Chairman Rajib Poudel and Mega Bank Executive Officer Anil Shah called for addressing economic prosperity through the next budget.
