NOC undergoes public test; refutes adulteration in petro products

6:16 PM

Amid allegations of the presence of thick substance in the petroleum products imported and supplied by Nepal Oil Corporation (NOC), the state-owned monopoly performed a lab test publicly on Thursday, claiming no adulteration.

The NOC said the shortage of petroleum products seen in Kathmandu for the past few days is not due to adulteration as reported in Nepal’s media.
“The train, which used to supply petro products to Nepal, could not come to the depot of Indian Oil Corporation in Raxaul at Nepal-India border. Further, we could not pay the IOC in time. These were the reasons for an obstruction in the supply,” said Sagar Satyal, the NOC’s acting executive director.
“These hurdles have been addressed, as we can see the improvement in supplies now,” he further said.
Earlier, petrol pumps across Kathmandu had complained that the nozzles of petrol refilling pipes were damaged due to low quality of petro products supplied by the NOC.
Most of the petrol pumps shut their outlets down due to the problem, which was witnessed simultaneously.
As the NOC had refused a demand of Petroleum Dealers’ Association to test the quality of petro products, the Association itself had sent samples to some labs in India. The results have not been made public as yet.
Following complaints of nozzle damage, some petrol pumps in Pokhara, Bharatpur and Hetauda also remain closed, to date.
