The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) has lodged a corruption charge-sheet against seven officials of Purbanchal University (PU), including vice chancellor Maheshwor Man Shrestha, at the Special Court, Kathmandu, on Sunday.
According to a statement issued by the anti-corruption body on Sunday, the seven officials were involved in irregularities by not taking any initiative to collect Rs 42 million as the admission fee in the current education year.
Various complaints were filed about the irregularities, following which the seven officials were detained on Tuesday for further investigation, added the statement.
The other officers charged in the court of law include PU registrar Niroj Pandey, exam comptroller Mohan Bahadur Basnet, dean at the Faculty of Arts, Education and Law Shambhu Prasad Koirala, dean at the Faculty of Science and Technology Shuva Narayan Pathak and assistant dean Rajesh Kumar Jha and dean at the Faculty of Management Shyam Bahadur Katwal.
Most of the PU officials have been suspended from their respective jobs following the CIAA investigation and filing of the case.
The CIAA has demanded reimbursement of the embezzled amount and maximum punishment as per Clause 17 of the Corruption Control Act 2059 BS.
