Nepal Blind Cricket Association (NBCA) has sought support for the development of visually impaired cricket in the country.
While Nepal is doing well in the international cricket, NBCA president Pawan Ghimire also urged all on Sunday to support the visually impaired women’s cricket to take it to an international level.
Though the government is providing Rs 550,000 to the Association for the upliftment of blind cricket, Ghimire said the amount is not enough. The government has been providing the assistance since last six years.
He said that the Association has plans to organise an international match between Nepal and England here in Kathmandu. However, the Association needs around 800,000 to organise the event, said Ghimire.
“We have approached the private organisations for support,” he added. “So far, we are getting support from women-based organisations besides the government assistance.”
Ghimire also informed that Nepali Blind Cricket Team is going to participate in the Fourth Blind World Cup in November this year in Cape Town, South Africa. The team selection will start soon, he said.
Nepali blind cricket team is the first ever team in the world, claimed Ghimire. “There are teams from 13 districts in the country so far.”
The Association has further plans to reach to all 75 districts in future for the promotion of blind cricket.
Meanwhile, the Association, along with Women’s Dream Beauty and Multi Services, Electro Medical Solution and House Wife Association, jointly organised the Visually Impaired Women T20 Cricket Tournament at Pulchowk Engineering Collage Ground in Lalitpur on Saturday.
The tournament was a part of a charity for developing the visually impaired women’s cricket. In the event, Kaski women secured a seven wickets victory against Bagmati women.
Kaski’s Maya Gautam made 70 runs while Mana Aryal scored 28 runs and Sanita Ghimire 18 runs to chase the target of 138 runs set by Bagmati.
Bagmati’s Mankeshi Chaudhary’s half-century was in vain after losing to Kaski.
The event also featured a match between National Cricket Team and the Nepali celebrities along with stalls of Nepali handicraft products and food stalls.
