After reaching on an agreement to form a political mechanism on Tuesday, a meeting of the top three political parties on Wednesday morning failed to settle issues such as number of members, modality and leadership of the committee.
Nepali Congress, CPN-UML and UCPN (Maoist) held a meeting at the prime minister´s official residence at Baluwatar today to continue yesterday’s discussions.
“We believe that the major parties have to keep communicating on issues of the peace process and the constitution writing,” said NC leader Krishna Prasad Sitaula. “Our talks will continue to iron out the contentious issues.”
Sitaula informed that the talks in the meeting revolved around the four-point agreement reached with the parties and the seven-point agreement signed between NC and UML.
Though the NC and UML have proposed a rotational chairmanship for the mechanism as was practiced earlier with the HLPC, the UCPN (Maoist) has staked a claim to permanent leadership of the body.
