Nepal is full of mystifying natural heritages: Foreign researchers

6:00 PM

Two foreign researchers have presented various astonishing facts about different places in the country.

The researchers, Russian Yuriy Radichev and Frenchman Maurice Duchene, have stated this in papers they presented in a programme here on Wednesday.

In their presentations, they displayed astonishing photographs of different caves they had explored in course of their research work across the country.

French national Duchene, who has visited most districts in the country, has carried out research on important cave systems in Nepal.

He said that among the 30 major caves he discovered, the Baitadi district based 196-meter-deep cave is the deepest one. He also said the Baraha Cave that lies at Mt. Annnapurna 1 has icicles at 95 meters from the cave’s mouth.

Some other caves he visited are Karkat Cave, Gupteshwor Cave at Parbat district. He also claimed some ice caves in Lamjung district, and at Mt. Kanchanjungha and Manaslu.

Similarly, he visited a man-made cave made around 2,000 years ago in Mustang district, which is decorated by ancient pictures, and paintings related to Buddhism.

Duchene claimed there are dozens of Nepali mountains that contain mysteries which are yet to be discovered.

Similarly, Russian national Radichev has taken around 280 photographs in the Himalayan region and included them in 22 photo exhibitions.

The two tourists have started photo exhibition from today in memory of the 16 climbers who perished at the avalanche happened at Mt. Everest base camp on April 18.

Russian Ambassador to Nepal, Sergai Velichkin, appreciated the photos while observing the exhibition and said he had never seen such wonderful photographs.

Nepal would further developed its ties with other countries when such facts are made known to the people in these countries, he said and stressed on the need for taking necessary steps for the preservation of such natural gifts.
