RPP-N to boycott CA comm's election today

5:58 PM

Pro-Hindu party RPP (Nepal) has announced that it will boycott the election for the five Constituent Assembly (CA) committees scheduled for Friday evening.

A parliamentary party meeting of the Kamal Thapa-led outfit which has also been calling for reinstatement of monarchy in the country took a decision to this effect this morning.

Expressing serious objection towards the attitude of “few political parties” to bar RPP (Nepal) from partaking in the election for the CA committees for holding "opposing views and stance", RPP said that it was boycotting the elections for the five CA committees by issuing a statement today.

UCPN (Maoist) senior leader Baburam Bhattarai has filed his nomination for the post of the Constituent Assembly’s Political Dialogue and Consensus Committee chairperson while Nepali Congress general secretary Krishna Prasad Situala has filed his candidacy for the chair of the CA’s Constitution Drafting Committee. Similarly, CPN-UML secretary Bishnu Poudel has filed his name for the chair of Previous Document Study and Conclusion Drawing Committee.

The nominations were filed as per an understanding reached among the top three parties along with some fringe and Madhesi parties at Prime Minister Sushil Koirala’s residence on Wednesday evening. The parties have decided to provide the remaining two committees to Madhesi parties and other fringe parties.

The election of all five CA committees will be held at 5 p.m. today.
