President Dr Ram Baran Yadav attended the 'Bagmati River Cleaning Campaign-2070' in its 50th week on Saturday.
Chairman of Constituent Assembly Subas Chandra Nembang, Minister for Urban Development Dr Narayan Khadka, Chairman of All Bishwa Gayatri Pariwar Dr Pranab Pandeya and others were present at a program organized at Guheshwori of Pashupatinath Area.
On the occasion, President Dr Yadav said that pollution and environmental degradation in the Bagmati River has become a serious challenge to all.
"Pollution in the Bagmati River has made the entire civilization polluted. Unmanaged settlement and garbage, increasing trend of sand extraction in the river and other problems have challenged the Bagmati River system. The lone effort of the government is not sufficient to address the problems and promptness of all public and social organizations is needed for this," the President said.
President Dr Yadav also drew attention of the ministries concerned to unveil a long-term program to keep the river clean in the future by considering the technical aspects.
Likewise, the President urged at least a member of each family in Kathmandu valley to participate in the Bagmati River Cleaning Campaign.
Also speaking at the program, Chairman Nembang recalled the experience of pure Bagmati River that he saw for the first time when he entered into Kathmandu in 2015 BS. He said that a foundation was needed not to make the river dirty again.
Similarly, Urban Development Minister Dr Khadka said that the Bagmati River is a symbol of religious and cultural civilization and added that the cleanliness campaign has received a mammoth support.
