A majority of lawmakers from Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) are opposed to the idea of electing Surya Bahadur Thapa, the party chairman, the parliamentary party leader.
Eleven out of 13 RPP lawmakers in the Constituent Assembly, including senior leaders Pashupati Shumsher Rana, Lokendra Bahadur Chand and Prakash Chandra Lohani, are apparently dissatisfied with Thapa for nominating his son, Sunil, as the Minister for Commerce and Supplies. RPP General Secretary Deepak Bohara said the election for the PP leader is due to be held next week but the party chairman and his son have not yet signed the PP statute which was forwarded to them a week ago. Party lawmakers have already signed the PP statute except for Thapa and his son. The RPP leaders have been exerting pressure on their chairman to sign the PP statute within a few days. According to party sources, Bohara is preparing to file candidacy for PP leadership while Bikram Pandey will be contesting for the post of deputy PP leader.
